1) Feminism is the advocacy for political, social, and economic equality for women, including women’s suffrage and job equality. A feminist is someone who supports and advocates for feminism. Given this definition, do you think that Mao Zedong was a feminist?
I know mostly all leaders support social equality women and men. Under the above definition, I think Mao Zedong was also definitely a feminist because he made laws that improved women's position socially and economically. They could now get an education and get a better job.
2) After Mao and People's Republic of China, has women's role in China improved?
I think women’s role in China and the world has been constantly improving along the history. After Mao and the PRC, however, there was a more significant improvement. Now there are many female students overseas, professors, engineers, architects, and high ranking officials because foot binding and arranged marriage is outlawed so Chinese women have rights.
3) If so, do you have any specific examples of how women's role in China has improved? For example, this could be about how a family member or even you have more opportunities financially and socially after the PRC.
To me, 1949 was a milestone of booming improvement of Chinese women’s rights in the history. For example, after Mao's reforms, I could get an education and get a better job. Before, if my feet were bound, I would not have been able to.
